Masquerade Ball, Comic-Con, RPGs and Job Interviews

Well....first long absence, but most certainly not the last.

Quite a few things have happened since last time. Here's the summary.

Watched Downton Abbey all the way to S2 E7. Almost through with Season 2! It's becoming more and more like a soap opera every time! Still hooked.

Also watched Star Trek: Into Darkness with my Mom and lover boy. Loved it! Cumberbatch is a dream! It was kind of hard disassociating Khan from Sherlock, though. Need to watch the Star Trek OS episode where he first appears, and then Wrath of Khan. Will do that with Mom!

On another note, I've continued to go to the Pathfinder RPG group that I visited as part of my dissertation investigation. They integrated my character to the story. She's a half elf sorceress called Isabella. I love those guys! There's a real friendship blossoming there. Also started another game with my lover boy's buddies. There I'm a half elf ranger called Inriri. I'm planning on starting my own campaign soon, too! Writing up the original story for it.

I went to a masquerade ball with my lover boy last Friday. It was really fun! We danced like we've never danced before (really!). My feet were killing me by the end of the night! At one point, the lights went out. One of the guests was dressed as Pikachu, and they had him "charge" the stereo with Thunderbolt. That was rich.

This last Saturday we also went to Comic-Con. There were so many people! We had to stand in line for like an hour and 45 mins! Highlights? I had my first cosplay experience! I went as Death from the Sandman comics. Put on a ton of baby powder, black lipstick and eyeliner! It came out great, even if I do say so myself. Three people asked for my picture. It was really exciting!!

There lots of awesome costumes. The best I've ever seen in PR, actually. Two guys went as Transformers. They were incredible!

Lastly, I have a job interview at Sears tomorrow. Not exactly the kind of job I would prefer, but I would rather have something productive to do during the summer, and seeing as very few places would hire someone for just a couple of months, I have to make do with what's available.

That's all for now. Until next time!

On Grandmas and Mofongo

One of the things I'm going to miss most is mofongo. That yellow garlicy goodness! I had some today, after developing a craving for it yesterday while writing about it to one of my pen pals. I'm definitely going to try making it in London. I know they have plantains (the largest plantains I've ever seen!). Just hope my cooking fineness can live up to it.

I drove around with my grandma today. Her car broke down, so she asked me to take her for a ride. I regret that I never had a deep relationship with her. She was never a very warm and open person. Instead she's bossy and even overbearing. She drives my father crazy sometimes, specially now that she's older and her mind's not the same as it used to be. But, she's still grandma. I'm make an effort to spend more time with her during the summer, maybe take her on more rides.

Today I watched two more episodes from Downton Abbey. S2 E2 and E3. I've found that this show is very good practice for understanding the British accents. I'll need it!

Also, I read two chapters from Blackout. You get so close to the characters in this book, probably because of the author's deep description. It gets a little annoying every now and then, but it really helps to know the characters and get into their heads.

On another note, I did yoga today with my mom. I'll make an effort to do it more often during the summer.

Downton Abbey and Defiance

Finally got around to starting the second season of Downton Abbey! I'd forgotten how good this show is! There's nothing like a good historical drama! Saw the S2 E1 tonight. Hopefully E2 comes tomorrow.

As for Defiance, my friend convinced me it was worth watching, so I gave it a shot. I'd seen the first 14 min of E1 online before the premire, but it didn't particularly call to me. Tonight I saw most of E1, which is divided in 2 parts. Couldn't make to rest, got tired. But I think I'll finish it. It might get better once the fighting begins!

That's today's update!

Introduction

It has begun. My last summer vacation in Puerto Rico. After five years, I've finally finished my BA! Now I'm off to to the UK for my MA in Museum Studies in University College London. I can't wait to go and start this whole new period in my life, but before I do, there are many loose ends I need to tie up back home. There are many things I want to do during the summer. I have a list! Some are simple, some are not. Most include visiting places I haven't seen in a long time, or eating in certain restaurants, reading books and watching all the tv series I've missed during school. I decided to start this blog to commemorate this last summer vacation in Puerto Rico. It will be my way of letting go and saying goodbye to my home properly.

And so, we begin!
